The Bethesda Game Todd Howard Is Most Proud Of Isn't Skyrim, It's Fallout 76

Fallout 76 is an unexpected standout in the Bethesda Game Studios catalog, but it has made significant progress since its clearly terrible initial release, which was affected by major bugs and technical issues as well as critiques of its environment design and limited activities and visual elements. Bethesda has invested seven years in refining the game and introducing new content, and now it's in much better shape, to the point where it's the Bethesda title that Todd Howard is most satisfied with.
Appearing in a recent episode of theKinda Funny show (via Idle Sloth), Howard argued in favor of Fallout 76 compared to generation-defining and cherished games such as Skyrim, Oblivion, and Fallout 3 and 4.
It was extremely challenging," Howard stated. "It was tough to get it off the ground, and once it did, it didn't perform well. Then, it became even more difficult to recover from that, and now that it's becoming popular again, keeping it stable is a whole new challenge.
Howard then exclaimed, "incredible," praising the Fallout 76 community for remaining loyal to the game over the years despite its problematic initial release. He also mentioned that the game's recovery journey and long-term appeal are the reasons he feels so proud of it now, which makes sense. Few online games manage to bounce back from a launch as widely criticized as Fallout 76's, and although this situation has become more common these days, it's still genuinely remarkable that the game is still active and well-liked today.
In many ways, it's the game we've created that I'm most proud of," said Howard. "It's incredibly difficult to develop and keep relevant, and if you look across the industry, there have been very few games like it that have lasted. Many have come and gone, but here we are with 76 still standing strong with impressive numbers and continued success.
Fallout 76 is entering its eighth year, and there's no indication it will lose momentum anytime soon. "I get to view the roadmap that's set for the game, and it keeps getting better," said Howard.
Todd Howard mentions that The Elder Scrolls 6 will bring back the "classic" Bethesda RPG experience seen in games such as Skyrim, Oblivion, and Fallout 4, following the studio's "creative detour" with Fallout 76 and Starfield: "We do have a specific style that we prefer."
