Israel Blames 'Malfunction' for Deadly Strike on Children Gathering Water in Gaza

The Israeli defense forces stated on Sunday that a fatal attack close to a water supply area in Gaza occurred due to a "mechanical error" while conducting an operation aimed at an individual affiliated with the Islamic Jihad organization, as reported. Israeli news outlets .

A raid on the Nuseirat refugee camp led to at least 10 fatalities, among them minors, according to the Times of Israel.

"Early this morning, an attack took place aimed at a militant affiliated with the Islamic Jihad group in central Gaza. Owing to a defect in the weapon used, it hit several dozen meters off the planned location," stated the Israeli army in a released announcement.

It mentioned it was "aware of reports of injuries in the region due to" and "the specifics of the event are still under review."

The Israeli armed forces stated that they focus on hostile fighters and "take all possible measures to reduce damage to innocent people."

"The IDF expresses regret for any damage inflicted upon civilians," it further stated.

Numerous American and global media sources indicated that the attack took place when kids were gathering water at the supply point. Al Jazeera stated that seven minors lost their lives.

The Gaza Health Ministry stated over the weekend that more than 58,000 Palestinians Have lost their lives in the conflict, including at least 32 individuals who died on Sunday alone.
