Alton Residents Rally Against Gun Violence in Vigil

Alton, Illinois – A gathering focused on raising awareness about firearm-related incidents united numerous local citizens on Sunday evening to commemorate those who have passed away and encourage unity within the neighborhood.

The gathering took place along the 800 section of Oakwood Estates and was arranged by Patricia Brown and Alton United following the heartbreaking death of 17-year-old Shabyra Hudson, who lost her life due to a random gunshot.

Many individuals from the community who wish to step forward and assist in healing, bringing everyone together with love," Brown stated. "To show the children and remind ourselves that we don't always have to remain apart.

Local officials, such as Mayor David Goins and the Alton police department, were present at the gathering, aiming to convey a stance against the increasing impact of firearm-related incidents.

We must convey this message with strength and clarity! Clearly! If you engage in gun violence, you will face the repercussions," Goins stated. "There will be consequences for your actions, and we emphasize that there are more effective methods to resolve conflicts.
