Mitchell Trubisky Joins Titans, Former 1st-Round QB Makes Move

Tennessee Titans Add Mitchell Trubisky as Veteran Backup
The Tennessee Titans have made a strategic move by agreeing to a free agent contract with veteran quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. This decision comes as the team looks to bolster its quarterback room, especially with second-year passer Cam Ward in the mix. According to a source, Trubisky will serve as a mentor for Ward, bringing his experience and knowledge to the table.
Trubisky previously worked with Titans offensive coordinator Brian Daboll when they were both in Buffalo, which could be a significant factor in his integration into the team's system. At 31 years old, Trubisky has been in the NFL since being selected in the first round by the Chicago Bears in 2017. His career record as a starter is 31-26, with most of those starts occurring in his early years with the Bears.
Over the past few seasons, Trubisky has taken on more of a backup role, bouncing between teams like Buffalo and Pittsburgh. He started five games with Pittsburgh during the 2022-23 season but has only seen limited action since then. In recent seasons, he has primarily served in mop-up duty behind MVP quarterback Josh Allen, throwing for 492 yards with six touchdowns and no interceptions in that role.
Throughout his career, Trubisky has accumulated 13,028 passing yards and 78 touchdowns, while also throwing 48 interceptions. However, his playing time has decreased significantly in recent years, with just 61 pass attempts over the past two seasons.
A New Addition to the Titans' QB Room
With Trubisky now on board, the Titans' quarterback room includes Will Levis and Trubisky, with the team showing a clear preference for adding a veteran backup to support Cam Ward this offseason. General manager Mike Borgonzi has emphasized the importance of having experienced players to guide younger talent.
Other free agent quarterbacks who were available this offseason include former Titans draft pick Malik Willis, who signed with the Miami Dolphins as their new starter. Additionally, several high-profile veterans such as Joe Flacco, Russell Wilson, Kirk Cousins, Kyler Murray, Tua Tagovailoa, Geno Smith, and Aaron Rodgers were also on the market.
