Voices: Why Do All Beckham's Girlfriends Resemble Victoria?

At Cruz Beckham’s 21stbirthday gathering at The MAINE in Mayfair, London, over the weekend, one aspect caught attention – and it wasn'tBrooklyn’s absence.

As David and Victoria stood with their children against a red velvet backdrop at the gathering,Cruz’s girlfriend, Jackie Apostel, 30, and Romeo's partner, Kim Turnbull, 24, appeared as if they were miniature versions of Victoria Beckham. When Victoria, 51, her sister Harper, 14, and Apostel took the stage during the extravagant evening to deliver a heartfelt birthday speech, Victoria and Apostel looked remarkably similar to twins.

And in every picture I see ofNicola Peltz – BrooklynHis 31-year-old wife - it's evident he married his mother. She, too, is aVictoria Beckham lookalike.

When she was photographed with her mother-in-law in February 2024 at the premiere of herdirectorial debut, Lola, before she and Brooklyn severed all connections with his renowned family, she was not only channeling Victoria but also wearing a white corset and low-slung pants from her Victoria Beckham line. They appeared nearly identical – despite the difference in age.

In the same year, Peltz was so eager to copy her mother-in-law that she walked out with her husband Brooklyn, both wearing the identical black Dolce & Gabbana biker jacket featuring diagonal white and cerulean blue stripes, which Victoria famously wore in 2001 at the Manchester United team parade along with her two-year-old son Brooklyn. Everyone follows her style – even her "iconic" one.Posh Spice looks.

By simply browsing their Instagram feeds, you can be overwhelmed by the numerous photos that resemble the Beckhams.girlfriendsThey are duplicates of Victoria, featuring their dark hair, slender appearances, and natural makeup style with distinctive pouts.

It's not accidental, though, that the boys have selected these women, just as I did when picking men similar to my father.

For the Beckhams, it's probably connected to“Brand Beckham”, which, as Brooklyn claims, is all the Beckham family focuses on with their staged social media updates. Imitation is the greatest form of compliment, yet dating women who look alike is a secure method to "fit in" and stay on Victoria's positive side.

Certainly, people frequently find themselves attracted to partners who resemble their parents, as it offers a sense of familiarity and comfort – and it seems secure. This hidden motivation, usually rooted in early life experiences, causes similar personality characteristics, emotional behaviors, or even physical features to appear as an irresistible draw.

The idea that a boy's first love is his mother or a girl's is her father holds some truth. Selecting a partner who resembles your parent says a lot about that relationship—whether positive or negative. In the case of the Beckhams, their partners must be at ease with viewing life as if it were a fashion show—thus requiring them to maintain a refined appearance—or they risk being excluded. A cohesive style enhances the brand—even if they don't intentionally pursue it. However, this goes much further.

It took me years of therapy and recovery to figure out why I kept choosing partners who were exactly like my father. I always ended up with men who not only resembled my dad in appearance—dark-haired, good-looking, with brown eyes—but also shared his personality characteristics: charming, prone to addiction, humorous, and extremely dedicated to work.

Partly, for me, it was about embracing my parents' remarkable love story – the“love at first sight” scenario I was raised hearing about – and I desired the same joyful conclusion.

But it wasn't until later, during my early twenties, that I understood it was a pattern that had to be broken—and healed. It revolved around my ongoing desire to earn my father's approval and affection.

I would choose men who, like my father, loved me but were frequently emotionally distant—and I would attempt to alter them. I would become dependent and drive them away, reinforcing my conviction that I was unlovable.

I was the love childAmong my parents – and the youngest – my father struggled with guilt over ending his first marriage and leaving behind three children. His feelings of guilt prevented him from fully showing his love to me. He also threw himself into his job – leaving my mother to handle the emotional aspects of parenting. As a child, I didn't understand this dynamic – and felt unloved – and came to see his emotional distance as a reflection of my own worth. I later tried to address this issue by seeking connection with other men.

It is a positive mental development for a young individual to distinguish their identity from their parents in order to gain independence – however, this was something I struggled with for many years. Selecting romantic partners who closely resemble a parent only increases the difficulty of breaking free from the cycle of family issues.

The Beckhams are clearly experiencing a complicated family rift – but one aspect remains consistent: all the Beckham men share the same preference in women. The issue is that having partners who resemble a parent isn't a healthy path – as I have found out. It highlights how deeply they are involved in a dependent family dynamic, where no one truly understands their identity beyond the roles and the illusion of a "perfect family," and even if the girlfriends do, they can only stay by conforming to Victoria's image.
