As the electricThe vehicle era keeps evolving, with cars becoming more streamlined and digital. Climate control knobs have disappeared, door handles are now integrated into the body, and volume dials have been replaced by haptic sliders. However, according to Business Insider, increasing regulatory demands and customer frustration are leading the automotive industry to bring back physical buttons.

Volkswagen's design director Andreas Mindt highlighted that a vehicle should not be viewed like a smartphone and underlined that the company will avoid making the same error.

Tesla introduced the touchscreen-focused design with the Model S, which included a 17-inch screen that provided a luxurious look and helped reduce costs. This approach was later followed by several models, such as the Volkswagen ID.4, Rivian, and Ford Mustang Mach-E. Safety issues have led China to prohibit hidden door handles, while the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is looking into complaints about electronic door systems. European regulators have started refusing high safety scores for cars that depend too much on touchscreens. The automotive industry is now striving to find a middle ground between advanced technology and traditional controls. The return of physical buttons is not just a sentimental movement; it acknowledges their essential role in providing an easy-to-use and secure driving environment.
