Sisters Hilary Duff and Haylie Duff: A Journey Through the Years

"The loneliest aspect of my life right now is not having my sister with me," Hilarysaid on CBS Mornings in February 2026, confirming the sisters' long-mentioned rift. "It's my truth, and many others are experiencing similar things. It's challenging because I am who I am, and people know every detail of my life since childhood. I didn't exactly choose that aspect, but it's my reality. It was genuinely, like, therapeutic to express."

1987

Haylie Duff became an older sister in September 1987 when her parents,Susan and Robert Duff, welcomed daughter Hilary Duff.

1993

The Duff family moved from Houston, Texas, when Hilary was six years old in order for her to pursue a career in acting.

"My sister, Haylie [Duff], and I grew up with our mother in a large apartment complex during our childhood. We were all child actors, and it was a secured neighborhood where we all knew one another," Hilary Duff said.Grazia in 2022. "It was an extremely secure location and my sister and I served as the group's leaders."

She went on, "The security guards constantly reprimanded us for making noise, and the neighbors were always complaining. One day, my sister and I hid in the bushes, waited for the attendant to leave the office, and covered his golf cart with tampons. When he returned, he removed them one by one, and we laughed loudly from behind the bushes."

Hilary appeared in works such asCasper Meets Wendy and Lizzie McGuire, while Haylie achieved recognition through roles onSeventh Heaven and Napoleon Dynamite. Haylie also had short appearances on her sibling'sLizzie McGuire series and its 2003 motion picture.

2006

Haylie and Hilary Duff costarred in Material Girls, a contemporary reinterpretation of Jane Austen'sSense and Sensibility, as sisters and heirs Ava and Tanzie.

2017

Hilary Duff and Haylie Duff were seen together for the final time at a launch event for "Worlds With Friends 2" in West Hollywood, California.

2021

Four years after that, Haylie Duff moved from California to Texas, the home state of the sisters.

"I had always pictured returning to Texas and raising our family here, along with other similar things," Haylie said.Fox News Digitalin 2022, mentioning the partnerMatt Rosenbergand their two daughters. "We had envisioned it more as something for our girls when they started middle school or around that age, but when the [coronavirus] pandemic occurred, we just looked at each other and thought, 'Should we? Should we look for a bit more space and some fresh air?"

Hilary Duff, meanwhile, continued to live in Los Angeles with her husband, Matthew Koma, and their three daughters. (Hilary also has a son named Luca from her previous relationship with Mike Comrie.)

2025

Haylie Duff couldn't believe It had been two decadessince she collaborated with her sister Hilary Duff inMaterial Girls.

"Is it 20 years? Wow. That's a film I think my daughters would enjoy," she said TV Insiderin June. "They haven't witnessed it, and I believe they would enjoy that film."

When questioned about creating aMaterial Girls sequel, Haylie subtly teased, "Never say never."

"I believe we both had to go and discover our own paths, but never rule anything out," she added.

2026

Hilary Duff launched her albumLuck … Or Something in February witha song titled "We Don't Talk."

Because we're from the same home, the same blood / A different mix, but the same lock," she sings. "People ask me how you're doing, I want to say amazing / But the truth is I don't know / What I always end up saying is / How we don't talk, we don't talk, talk about it.

Hilary later confirmed to CBS Morningsthat the song was "definitely" released after Haylie Duff and their falling out—and that she wasn't certain if her sister should hear the track.

I don't believe that would make a difference. I think I need to simply be myself and pursue what I want," Hilary admitted to the publication. "I hope that's the case for everyone too. You have to do what you truly want and what makes you feel good. It took me a long time to reach this point and to live that way, to not worry about the surrounding noise and just be myself.
