  • Now, the mother states that she believes her daughter has chimerism.

Ashlee Black had always sensed her daughter was unique, but she wasn't sure just how extraordinary she was.

A 36-year-old woman mentioned that it wasn't until her daughter, Valyn, was four weeks old that she observed the baby had "different colors of eyes and hair."

In December 2025, the mother of nine proudly shared aTikTok videoher daughter's smile in the crib, which became a sensation, receiving more than 2.7 million views.

"This adorable baby girl has eyes with different colors and hair, along with two distinct skin tones. Might she have chimerism?" she wrote in the video's description.

Chimerism is an uncommon medical condition where a person has at least two separate sets of DNA, potentially causing variations such as different eye colors, patches of skin with varying tones, and hair that differs in color or texture.

From sharing Valyn's video, I've discovered that having three different colored eyes, hair, and skin is extremely uncommon, and others think she might have chimerism," Black says. "Her right side features her dark eye along with dark, straight, and thick hair, while her left side has her light eye and light, thin, curly hair.

"I chose to make the video because I was interested in finding out if there are others who were born that way, and honestly, I wanted everyone to see my wonderful child that God gave me," she adds.

Although Black is amazed by her baby's attractiveness, she acknowledges that the process of welcoming Valyn was very challenging.

Black revealed that she discovered she was pregnant at five weeks, and medical professionals initially informed her that the "gestational sac was positioned too low and the fetal heart rate was also below normal," leading them to believe she "was going to experience a miscarriage."

She was "devastated," but two weeks later, she had another ultrasound.

They told me her heart rate had gone up a bit, but I had a rare type of ectopic pregnancy involving a cesarean scar (where the sac was growing into my uterine scar rather than inside my uterus," she explains. "They said I needed to end the pregnancy as quickly as possible and referred me to a specialist.

A cesarean scar ectopic pregnancy is very uncommon and happens when "an early pregnancy attaches to the scar tissue from a prior C-section," according toThe American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

"I went to meet with them, and they told me how dangerous this is for me, as there's a high risk of uterine rupture and bleeding, which can lead to the death of both the baby and me," she says.

Despite knowing all this information, both my husband and I felt God's presence urging us to have faith," she continued. "I refused the termination, and we returned for weekly ultrasounds, each one revealing worse outcomes and prompting them to advise me to reconsider the termination.

When they arrived for her 12-week ultrasound, medical professionals found that her daughter was developing within her uterus rather than moving toward her bladder, and "was doing great." However, the scan also showed that she "had placenta accreta and placenta previa."

According to the Mayo Clinic, placenta previa "is a condition during pregnancy where the placenta fully or partially covers the opening of the uterus," instead of being located at the top or along the side of the uterus. Meanwhile, placenta accretais a "severe pregnancy condition in which the placenta implants too deeply into the uterine wall," indicating "a portion or the entire placenta stays attached" following delivery.

"Valyn's placenta grew through my uterus and connected to other organs, such as my bladder. I was hospitalized for two months before giving birth because I experienced significant bleeding and was at a high risk for both fetal and maternal death, with an even greater risk of dying during delivery due to the severe blood loss associated with placenta percreta," she explains.

With support from her "remarkable" group of physicians, her daughter "arrived at 34 weeks and was just as flawless as possible."

Valyn means healthy, strong, and brave," says Black. "She is a beautiful and distinctive little girl, designed to make an impact and born with such a wonderful purpose. We are truly fortunate.

As per Black, Valyn is the "happiest baby." She grins and giggles from "the moment she wakes up, to the time she falls asleep."

"She has a fondness for everyone she has encountered and greets them with the most adorable smile. She likes to play with her siblings and crawl after them around the house. However, she can also entertain herself and be equally content," Black says.
