New Hampshire Police Urge Drivers to Slow Down After Cruiser Damage

The New Hampshire State Police is advising the public on road safety following damage to a patrol vehicle during a nighttime winter storm.

Approximately 9:02 p.m. on Friday, a state police officer, who was not inside his vehicle, was looking into an accident on Interstate 93 in Londonderry when a motorist struck the patrol car.

A 22-year-old driver named Marcelo Candido de Oliveira Filho from Watertown, Massachusetts, lost control of his 2020 Volkswagen Jetta, colliding with the rear of a police cruiser. The accident resulted in operational damage to the cruiser and rendered the Jetta inoperable.

The NHSP asks all drivers to reduce speed and change lanes when they notice flashing lights ahead," state police stated. "Whether it's a police officer, firefighter, EMT, tow truck driver, highway worker, or someone with a disabled vehicle, their safety relies on others' careful observation and quick response.

Son was cited and is expected to appear in Derry Circuit Court in April.

This is an ongoing situation. Return later for new details as they emerge.
