Mother and Teen Son Killed When Van Hits Log on Disabled Truck in Clarendon County

Officials have confirmed that two individuals who perished in a fatal accident on Friday in Clarendon County are a mother and her son.

Master Trooper William Bennett from the South Carolina Highway Patrol stated that the accident occurred approximately at noon on Greeleyville Highway close to Bay Shadow Drive.

Bennett stated that a 2015 Toyota Sienna was traveling north on Greeleyville Highway when it collided with a log from an empty Western Star truck equipped with a log trailer, which had broken down in the northbound lane.

Bennett stated that the Toyota veered off the road to the right and collided with a tree. Both the passenger and driver in the vehicle died at the location.

Clarendon County Coroner Jacqueline Blackwell identified the adult victim as 38-year-old Heather Strebeck from Manning, and mentioned that the other victim was her 13-year-old son. Blackwell decided not to disclose the teenager's name since he was a minor.

The South Carolina State Police continue to look into the accident.
