M for Million: Ferrari 430 16M Shatters $1 Million Mark
You might not realize it from the 2025 season (or 2023, or 2020), but Ferrari's performance in the Formula 1 World Constructors' Championship has been exceptional. It's truly unmatched.Cavallino Rampante Has returned to Maranello with that trophy 16 times, significantly more than McLaren (10), Williams (9), Mercedes (8), and Lotus (7). The most recent time the Italians claimed the prize was in 2008. Lewis Hamilton secured the Drivers' title while driving for McLaren, but Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro took the team award.
After securing that 16th victory, Ferrari did what any esteemed automaker would do—create a celebratory limited-edition model and charge a higher price for it. In this instance, the special edition was the Scuderia Spider 16M (formondiale), a more vibrant, open-top version of theF430Built for the 2009 model year, it had a starting price of $313,350. Although the 16M was impressive in 2009, it now has a different kind of appeal in 2026. A year ago, the typical value was around $500,000, but two units have recently sold for over $1 million. The most recent one was sold at the Ferrari-focused Cavallino Palm Beach auction, for$1,105,000.
Many unique car editions are just about appearances, but the 16M is much more than just stickers and trophies. It can be seen as a rarer, pricier open-top version of the performance-oriented430 ScuderiaThat indicates a 4.3-liter V-8 modified to produce 503 horsepower (compared to 490 in the standard F430) at 8,500 revolutions per minute and a top speed of 198 miles per hour, along with a weight reduction that made the 16M 176 pounds lighter than the regular F430 Spider.
Race-prepped suspension, carbon-ceramic disc brakes, and the F1-Superfast2 manual-shift transmission are all featured. Ferrari also reinforced the chassis and added distinctive five-spoke aluminum wheels.Car and Driver referred to it as "perhaps the loudest street-legal car we have ever driven," while Ferrari highlighted the 16M as their fastest convertible road car at the Fiorano test track so far.
Ferrari assembled only 499 units of the Scuderia Spider 16M, and as reported by RM Sotheby's, most U.S. purchasers acquired theirs in a red hue, orRosso, if you're fluent in Ferrari. The one sold in Palm Beach, however, stood out for itsBlue Pozzi-over-Terra Bruciata ("Scorched Earth") leather, along with anArgento NürburgringA silver and black stripe. The window sticker indicates over $18,000 in additional features, such as embroidered headrests. The prancing horse emblem on the driver's seat is orange, while the one on the passenger side is purple. In the listing images, the odometer shows slightly under 6,000 miles.
A production run of 499 units makes the 16M rare, but not extremely rare, with a reasonable number having been offered at auction on both sides of the Atlantic. Prices in the mid-six figures have been typical for several years, including a red one for$448,500in 2024 and another forCHF488,750(approximately $610,000) last year. Then, in the final few months of 2025 and moving into early 2026, 16M prices began to rise noticeably. For instance, that same $448,400 vehicle from 2024 sold for$907Kin Arizona this year. At Mecum's Kissimmee auction last month, a very low-mileage and very yellow 16M was also among the many surprisingly high modern Ferrari sales when it was reported sold out of theBachman Collection for $1.98M.
Several prices from that collection appeared impossible to replicate, and other recent modern Ferrari sales confirm this. However, this blue one implies that a well-equipped 16M in appealing colors isn't a $2 million vehicle, yet itisA $1 million car, or nearly that amount. Dealers seem to concur. A quick online search reveals a few 16Ms available in the U.S. right now, and almost all of them are priced between $900,000 and $1 million.
