Lindsey Vonn's Comeback: "Ride Was Worth the Fall" After Fourth Surgery

American skier Lindsey Vonn said on Saturday that her most recent surgery went well, and that she has been approved to return to the United States afterbreaking her left legin a severe collision last weekend during her initial downhill race at theWinter Olympics in Italy. 

"Good surgery today!" the 41-year-old Vonnwrote on social media. This is her fourth operation since the February 8 accident.

Vonn stated on Friday that she would require at leasttwo more surgeries— the one Saturday and a second after she comes back to the U.S.

On Wednesday, Vonn revealed that she had already completedthree surgeriesSince sustaining the injury, she stated on Saturday that once she returns to the U.S., she intends to provide "more updates and information regarding my injury."

The seasoned athlete from Colorado also spoke about her accident, stating, "I don't feel any regrets."

The experience was worth the risk. When I shut my eyes at night, I don't feel any regrets, and my passion for skiing continues," Vonn stated in her message. "I still look forward to the day when I can stand at the peak of the mountain again. And I will.

Vonn fell just moments into the first run of her Olympic downhill competition. She was participating despiterupturing her left ACLin a separate accident during a World Cup event in the Swiss Alps last month.

I was ready to take chances, work hard, and make sacrifices for something I knew I could absolutely accomplish," Vonn stated in the post. "I will always choose the risk of falling while giving it my best effort, rather than not skiing to the best of my ability and facing regret.

A three-time Olympic medalist returned from retirement to take part in the Milan Cortina Games. Following an ACL injury, she expressed confidence that she could still compete with the support of a knee brace.

Please, don't feel sad," Vonn said. "I embrace compassion, affection, and encouragement with an open heart, but I ask that you not show sorrow or pity. I hope this inspires you to find strength and keep striving, as that is what I am doing and what I will always continue to do.
