Kimberly Van Der Beek Honors Eric Dane With Emotional Tribute

James Van Der Beek's wife, Kimberly, has made asincere homage to Eric Dane, the Grey's Anatomyactor who passed away eight days following Kimberly's husbandJames, who became famous in Dawson's Creek.

Posting on Instagram Stories, Kimberly shared a photo featuring James and herself with Eric and his wife Rebecca Gayheart at a gala in 2013. She captioned it: "RIP @realericdane. We love you @rebeccagayheartdane. Will miss our guys laughing at Christmas parties together."

Eric passed away on Thursday, February 19, at the age of 53, 10 months following his announcement that he had been diagnosed with ALS. James died on February 11, 2026, at the age of 48 aftera fight against colorectal cancer

James and Eric both emerged during the height of millennial television, and their families maintained a strong connection, frequently attending the annual Chrysalis Butterfly Ball that assists "individuals in overcoming challenges on their journey toward fulfilling employment."

James played the lead role in the teen drama Dawson's Creek from 1998 to 2004, as Eric gained popularity on the supernatural television seriesCharmed in 2003, prior to appearing as Dr. Mark Sloan, also known as McSteamy, on ABC'sGrey's Anatomy

Initially intended to appear in just one episode,McSteamy proved so popular that he continued to appear on the program for an additional seven years.

A statement from James' family confirmed his passing, saying: "Our cherished James David Van Der Beek passed away peacefully this morning. He faced his final days with bravery, belief, and dignity. There is much to discuss about his desires, his love for people, and the importance of time. Those details will follow."

"For the time being, we request quiet solitude as we mourn our cherished husband, father, son, brother, and friend," it ended, as fans and friends filled the comments section with expressions of sympathy for the family.

Eric's reps told HELLO!in a statement: "With deep sorrow, we announce that Eric Dane passed away on Thursday afternoon after a brave fight against ALS."

He spent his last days with close friends, his loving wife, and his two lovely daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the heart of his life.

"Throughout his battle with ALS, Eric emerged as a dedicated supporter of awareness and research, committed to making an impact for those enduring the same struggle. He will be greatly missed, and cherished in memory forever," the statement added.

Close friends of both James and Eric have created GoFundMe pages to assist their families.

After Eric's passing, his friends created the page with a goal of $250,000to help his daughters and their future requirements.It stated: "Any donation, regardless of its amount, will assist in offering stability during this extremely challenging period and for the future of Eric’s amazing daughters.

Sam Levinson, the architect of HBO'sEuphoria, in which Eric appeared, and his wife Ashley contributed $27,000.

James' companions disclosed that thethe family's financial condition had been greatly affectedby covering James' medical expenses, and that the family is currently "struggling to remain in their home" and "keep a sense of stability."

"Following this tragedy, Kimberly and her children are dealing with an uncertain future. The expenses related to James's medical treatment and the prolonged battle with cancer have drained the family's finances. They are striving to remain in their home and provide the children with continued education and a sense of stability during this extremely challenging period," the project stated.

The family had initially aimed to collect $500,000, but contributions surpassed that goal, with director Steven Spielberg and his wife Kate Capshaw among the donors.
