Even Though It's More Than 50 Years Old, This Film Stands the Test of Time Nicely

I won't sit here and pretend to beJeremiah JohnsonA film released over 50 years ago appears as if it were just recently released. However, I also can't claim that this movie doesn't remain impressive, particularly in terms of its technical aspects.Filmed in Panavision, Sydney Pollack's movie adaptation of the life and achievements of mountain man Jeremiah Johnson is grand in every way.

This film is packed with amazing scenes that immerse you in the journey of Redford's character, following his transformation from an inexperienced trapper to a man engaged in a brutal conflict with a vengeful Native American group. Although I have never lived the life of a trapper in the high mountains, I felt as though I was there, breathing in the cold, thin air alongside Johnson while struggling to endure the tough conditions and unfriendly locals. There's no need for the 4DX experience, as the visuals and grandeur of this western are more than sufficient on their own.

I'm Still Amazed by Jeremiah Johnson's Change

Before going into Jeremiah Johnson, it had been a good 15 years since I last watched it (I had a friend in college who was really into this film). Although I recalled most of the general plot – a man ventures into the mountains, attempts to survive, and eventually gets involved in a violent conflict with a group – there were many aspects that I hadn't remembered.Johnson's significant transformation and paththat I had completely overlooked.

Certainly, certain elements of this film have not stood the test of time (the most notable being the depiction of a white actress with makeup to appear more Native American), but the main character's path of departing from society and the "civilized" world in pursuit of a more straightforward and fulfilling life is something that deserves recognition. The strength and determination of the human spirit are examined repeatedly through the narratives of different individuals striving to endure the tough and unyielding conditions of the wilderness.
