Fifth Annual Buffalo Grass Fest Honors West Texas Music
LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Thefifth edition of the Buffalo Grass Festis gathering musicians from throughout the South Plains to celebrate their passion for music.
Stacey Keith leads the Lubbock Cultural Arts Foundation. She mentions that the yearly event, established in 2020, aims to bring local musicians together via networking, career growth opportunities, and live performances.
Professional growth for artists, networking opportunities for musicians, showcasing outstanding music, and genuinely simplifying the path for the next generation of talent," Keith stated. "Also, helping to open doors and make the journey a bit smoother for experienced musicians.
Access for students to industry experts
Brent Wheeler, part of the Creative Arts department at South Plains College, mentioned that the event provides emerging artists with the chance to collaborate with experienced professionals in the field.
They get to meet someone who's actively involved, like Shelly King or her band or the guest artist she's bringing in, and John Sprott, whom they can see more easily in this setting," Wheeler said. "So, it really helps, it makes them realize that this is achievable for them too, and the things they're doing as a student will lead them toward a successful career.
Open mic and concert scheduled
Keith mentioned that the festival provides more than just musical performances, such as an open jam session where everyone is welcome to join in.

So, there's something for everyone, you don't need to be a musician. We always have an open jam, which is one of the most enjoyable parts of this, allowing everyone who wants to bring their instrument and join in," she said. "We provide professional backline equipment, so they have that rhythm section and they can either sing, play their guitar, or any instrument they choose, and that's always a lot of fun.
Daytime activities will take place at LHUCHA from 10:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. on February 21st. A musical performance will then occur at the Cactus Theater, with the entrance opening at 7 p.m.
