Hilary Duff Shares Rare Words About Her Sister Haylie

After years of social media speculation, Hilary Duff is finally speaking openly about her relationship with her sister, Haylie. On the Feb. 20 episode ofCBS Mornings, the actor-singer offered rare insights about her renowned sibling, confirming that they are currently not on good terms and she composed the song“We Don’t Talk,” from her new album, luck… or something, about their relationship.
During her interview, Duff became visibly emotional when she said that "We Don't Talk" is "definitely" about Haylie. "The most lonely part of my existence right now is not having my sister in my life," she shared.
Although she "found it difficult" to decide whether to include the song on her album, she clarified why she ultimately chose to do so. "As someone who exists in the world without my other half, many people are going through this," she mentioned. "A lot of discussions I'm having with others go like, 'Yeah, me too.'"
In the song, she co-wrote and produced with herhusband, Matthew Koma, Duff reflects on a fractured relationship with a distant family member, not referring to Haylie by name, as she sings, "We come from the same home, the same blood." She also contemplates how they ended up so far apart, stating, "If it's because you're jealous, God knows I would sell everything, then take you down even more."
What Happened With Haylie?

Although Duff didn't go into detail about what led to the disagreement with her sister, the two are rumoredto have been distant for the past few years, as they haven't appeared in photos together since 2019, just before Haylie relocated to Austin, Texas, with her family.
Even though they continue to follow each other on Instagram, they have not engaged on social media for years. However, Haylie recently shared herhangout with Ashley Tisdale, after Tisdale became popular for writing an essay about leaving a "toxic" mother group rumored to include Duff.
When questioned if "We Don't Talk" might help repair relations with Haylie, Duff admitted she wasn't certain, stating she wanted to "be a person on her own" and share her stories without concern for the result or public response.
I don't believe that would be beneficial," she stated. "I'm unsure if she'll listen. I don't know how she'll respond. It's a very private aspect of my life that can't remain private. So, I might as well express how it is for me, and that's all I'm aiming to do. I'm not trying to say anything negative. It's truly just my personal experience — and that's all I feel comfortable sharing.
