Hilary Duff Misses Her Sister Deeply

In a Friday conversation withCBS Mornings, Hilary DuffIt was confirmed that one of the songs, "We Don't Talk," from her new album is inspired by her older sister, Haylie Duff. "It's definitely about my sister and the most lonely aspect of my life," the 38-year-old stated when questioned about the track, which features lyrics such as "I'm not sure when it happened / Not even sure what it was about," and mentions coming from "the same home, the same blood." She further explained, "It's about not having my sister in my life right now, and I really wrestled with whether to include it on the album."

Duff mentioned that her goal was to create an album centered around "connection," featuring songs that mirror her personal experiences. When questioned if she hoped Haylie would listen to the track, the singer responded that she didn't "think that would make a difference." She continued, "I believe I need to simply be myself and pursue what I want to do."

The Duff sisters remained close throughout the 2000s — they frequently performed and sang together (you may recall their 2004 popular version of "Our Lips Are Sealed"). It's not clear exactly what occurred between them, but according toUs Weekly, the sisters were lastphotographedTogether in 2019 and have since ceased communicating with each other on social media. Duff, who is preparing for a major return as a pop star, has been discussing their supposed rift during interviews for the new album. "That's my family.
