Eminem is once more pursuing legal measures to safeguard the identity associated with one of hip-hop's most renowned personas.

The legendary figure from Detroit's rap scene has submitted an official objection to theUnited States Patent and Trademark Officeto prevent the trademark registration of the name "The Real Squid Shady," claiming it is excessively similar to his well-known "Slim Shady" character.

As per the document, Eminem feels he would suffer damage if the trademark is granted. The application, filed by a woman named Sydney Anderson, aims to use the name for music-related services such as recording, production, publishing, and songwriting.

Anderson, an "aspiring idol and rocker, has multiple social media profiles using different versions of the 'Squid Shady' name, includingInstagram and TikTok.

Eminem's legal representatives claim the suggested name leads to a high chance of confusion since it uses the main term "Shady," which has been closely linked to his brand and professional identity for years. They argue that the two names only vary by including descriptive phrases such as "The Real" and "Squid," while maintaining the core element that represents his image.

The submission highlights that Eminem has utilized the "Slim Shady" and "Shady" names for many years in music, merchandise, and live shows, with these marks now being widely recognized worldwide as representations of his identity and business. His legal team states that he has dedicated significant time and effort to developing and preserving the brand's reputation and customer loyalty.

Eminem has several federal trademark registrations associated with his name, such as "SHADY" for apparel and "SLIM SHADY" for music recordings and entertainment services.

His legal representatives also caution that approving the new trademark might incorrectly imply a link to Eminem, possibly deceiving fans into thinking the services are connected to or supported by him. They claim it could diminish and weaken the uniqueness of the "Shady" brand.

The conflict is the most recent in a series of trademark disputes involving the rapper, who has consistently protected his intellectual property for many years. Should the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board support Eminem, the "Real Squid Shady" application might be rejected prior to receiving approval.
