Bill Self Shares Hopeful Update on Darryn Peterson's Health Before Iowa State Game

One of the most discussed topics in college basketball this year has been the presence of the top guardDarryn Peterson.

Since No. 9 Kansas' initial exhibition game against Louisville in October, Peterson has been facing various challenges, such as muscle cramps, tight hamstrings, a twisted ankle, and, most recently,“flu-like symptoms”, which prevented him from joining the Jayhawks’historic 90-82 victory against the No. 1 Arizona Wildcats last Monday.

Head coach Bill Self dedicated most of his time toThursday's press conference aimed to refute rumors about Peterson.

"The reality is, when you're truthful, people often don't trust you. Then, if you remain silent, others come up with their own stories. And you know what? I do the same when I'm unfamiliar with something. 'It must be this, it has to be that, since they aren't discussing it,'" said Self.

Peterson is "all set"

A few minutes ago, ESPN insider Pete Thamel stated that Peterson is "ready to go" and "will definitely start."

The Jayhawks will face the Cyclones for the second time this season on Saturday afternoon, following their first encounter which concluded in a...84-63 blowoutamong the then-No. 2 Cyclones in mid-January.

Since then, Kansas has secured seven more victories, including three against teams listed in the AP Top-13 (No. 13 BYU, No. 13 Texas Tech, No. 1 Arizona).

Peterson scored 16 points, making 6 of 15 shots from the field, while adding five rebounds, one assist, two steals, and one block, mirroring his performance in the previous matchup between the teams.

It was certainly not a successful day for the former No. 1 overall player, but it wasn't necessary for Peterson to have a stellar performance since he was one of four players who scored over 10 points on a team that made 51% of their shots from the field and an impressive 50% from beyond the arc, hitting 12 three-pointers.

The game is scheduled for Saturday at 12 p.m. CT, and it will be available to stream on ABC.
