Truck Crash Closes Eastex Freeway Ramp to WB 610 North Loop

Truck drivers are facing significant traffic delays on Thursday following an accident involving an overturned semi-trailer truck, which led to a full shutdown of the Eastex Freeway entrance onto the westbound 610 North Loop.

The Houston Fire Department stated that the large truck contained 44,000 pounds of zinc chloride, although it remains unknown whether there is a spill.

A privately owned contracting firm is involved in cleaning up the area, while officials have not revealed the duration of traffic disruptions for motorists.

• Zinc chloride appears as a white crystal substance. It dissolves easily in water. It has a tendency to corrode metal surfaces, making it harmful to the skin, eyes, and inner linings of body cavities. This compound finds application in treating timber against decay, in substances used during welding processes, as an agent that speeds up certain chemical reactions within industrial production, and for various additional purposes.

• A zinc chloride solution appears as a clear liquid. It has a slight ability to corrode metals. Contact with this substance can lead to irritation of the eyes, skin, and inner linings of body cavities.
