Lighting Upgrades on AL-20 Cause Traffic Delays in Decatur

Decatur city will begin again the repair of streetlights along Alabama Highway 20 (U.S. 31) from August 4 onward, with the project anticipated to last until October 10.

Work crews will be operating from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, along the section stretching from Market Street to half a mile north of Riverwalk Marina. Roadway restrictions will happen sporadically in either the northbound or southbound lane, though only one traffic direction will be impacted simultaneously.

During business hours, a mobile crane will be functioning within the restricted traffic lanes. Because of safety issues and cramped conditions, vehicles carrying oversized cargo are advised against entering this zone during those periods.

Drivers are advised to consider different paths whenever feasible and be prepared for possible traffic slowdowns. Authorities remind all drivers to exercise caution and remain watchful of personnel and machinery within construction areas.
