Cubs Land RHP Michael Soroka in Nats Trade

The Chicago Cubs strengthened their pitching lineup before Thursday's trade deadline after reportedly obtaining right-handed pitcher Michael Soroka from the Washington Nationals on Tuesday evening.

The Cubs are trading two young talents to Washington in exchange for Soroka: Christian Franklin, an outfielder from Triple-A, and Ronny Cruz, an 18-year-old infielder from the Arizona Complex League. Franklin and Cruz ranked as Chicago's 14th and 13th best prospects, per MLB Pipeline.

Soroka, who is 27 years old, has appeared in 16 games for the Nationals this year, compiling a 3-8 win-loss record along with a 4.87 earned run average.

A 2019 All-Star while playing for the Braves, Soroka sat out the 2021 and 2022 campaigns due to Achilles tendon issues and transitioned to the bullpen last year with the White Sox.

The Cubs have faced multiple injuries within their pitching rotation this year and may seek to acquire additional pitchers prior to the 6 p.m. ET trading deadline on Thursday.
