The Long-Awaited MCU Character Finally Arrives

Fans of Marvel from every corner of the globe are eagerly awaiting the return of the Avengers. That's everything they... Marvel Cinematic Universe Fandom can discuss, as the finale of the Multiverse Saga is scheduled to start next year. Avengers: Doomsday , featuring Robert Downey Jr. returning but in an entirely different capacity as the notorious Doctor Doom. This promises to be an incredible movie, although fans will have to endure quite some time before seeing this chapter hit theaters, with the release now scheduled for December 2026 (previously planned for May). However, waiting will definitely be worthwhile to witness the MCU icon take on the well-known Marvel Comics antagonist.

One character that has had Marvel enthusiasts eagerly anticipating their introduction into the MCU for quite some time is Doctor Doom. This renowned series has brought characters such as Thanos, Red Skull, the Winter Soldier, Gorr the God Butcher, and numerous others from the comic books onto screen throughout the years, making it seem like almost every major villain has already made an appearance. However, Victor von Doom remains among those not yet seen. Now, this will finally change before the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga, bringing together the Avengers along the way.

With that in mind, there's another iconic figure within the MCU universe that hasn't been adapted yet—and it's someone so significant that it's surprising they've overlooked them. At least, not officially part of the MCU storyline.

Reports suggest Marvel Studios is considering bringing Norman Osborn into the MCU.

As reported by a seasoned industry veteran Daniel Richtman Marvel Studios is considering bringing Norman Osborn into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While they haven’t specified when or where this might occur, it’s probable that his introduction will take place following the end of the Multiverse Saga, as several new characters are expected to significantly contribute to making the upcoming phase distinct from previous ones. Osborn may be among these newcomers.

If you're feeling puzzled about the prospect of a new Norman Osborn in the MCU, you aren't alone. The moment the character eventually shows up in the movie franchise, it will not be the first instance where a Marvel Studios production has mentioned him. You might recall that in 2021’s... Spider-Man: No Way Home brings Willem Dafoe back as his portrayal of the character, enabling him to take on the role he performed in Sam Raimi's film Spider-Man Back in 2002. Additionally, Marvel Animation's Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man - set in a different version of Earth that exists alongside the MCU - featured Colman Domingo as the voice of Norman during its 10-episode series (and he is anticipated to come back for season 2 next year).

Either of these portrayals of the notorious Spider-Man antagonist was limited to their respective realities, meaning they aren’t officially part of the MCU’s Earth-616. Considering this, any new depiction of Norman in the series is expected to be the MCU’s recognized version—specifically tied to Earth-616. Should that happen, Marvel Studios and Sony might choose to reveal him prior to the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga. After all, now that we’ve encountered his different iterations, it's just a question of when we'll finally meet the main one.

Norman Osborne is an antagonist of Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to begin production this year. Could the future Green Goblin end up facing off against Tom Holland's Spidey in the upcoming fourth Spider-Man movie in the MCU franchise? Probably not right away, but this could serve as the perfect opportunity to introduce this particular variant of the character, setting the stage for a long-term storyline with him.

It remains uncertain whether Marvel Studios and Sony plan to have Willem Dafoe or Colman Domingo reprise their roles. Among the two, Domingo seems like the more probable choice. Regarding the characters in... Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man remain similar to their MCU equivalents, it makes sense that Osborn would as well. With this in mind, Domingo might be brought in to portray the live-action rendition of the character.

For quite some time, Domingo's name has been linked to the MCU, with early speculation suggesting he might take over the role of Kang the Conqueror from Jonathan Majors. The Fear The Walking Dead Star eventually confirmed that discussions about it may have taken place, but he expressed greater interest in portraying his own character. Having previously collaborated with Marvel Studios and Sony, he remains a likely candidate for reprising that role in future live-action projects.

Norman Osborn is one of the best-known Marvel Comics villains due to his alter-ego as the Green Goblin as well as his complex relationships with his son Harry and Peter Parker. It goes without saying that his MCU debut is long-overdue at this point and that Colman Domingo would have the charisma, aura, and acting quality to bring him to life.
