Huntsville Hospital Unveils Expansion of Emergency Services Across the City

The Huntsville Hospital Health System is proceeding with a significant commitment to emergency care, which involves establishing two additional standalone emergency rooms and expanding facilities at Madison Hospital.

If authorized by the state, an urgent care facility would be constructed in Hampton Cove and another in northern Huntsville. The emergency department at Madison Hospital would expand with six additional beds, increasing its capacity by 25 percent.

The Huntsville community is experiencing faster growth compared to any other part of the state," stated Jeff Samz, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Huntsville Hospital Health System. "Our healthcare network has served as the foundation of medical services in this region for 130 years. We are dedicated to meeting present demands and getting ready for continued expansion going forward.

The healthcare network has sent an intention letter to the state of Alabama and intends to officially request a Certificate of Need during the coming summer.

We aim to expedite these initiatives once they're approved. Our strategy involves finishing the design during the upcoming winter and starting the construction of the FEDs in the spring of 2026," Samz stated. "The initiative at Madison Hospital has already begun.

Every emergency department initiative is anticipated to incur approximately $30 million in costs. Although specific sites have not been disclosed, Samz mentioned that the proposed funding for northern Huntsville will represent the biggest healthcare investment ever undertaken in that region.

"We are implementing clear actions to improve availability of urgent medical services throughout all areas of our community. The healthcare funding we plan to allocate in northern Huntsville will represent the biggest commitment ever seen there. This will be groundbreaking. We anticipate obtaining permission soon so we can begin.
