Pigeon's Farmer's Summerfest: Parades, Food, Music & Fun Awaits!
The town of Pigeon has been honoring everything related to sunlight for over half a century through its yearly Farmer's Summerfest.
President of the Pigeon Chamber of Commerce, Erica Kolacz, stated that the event will include live performances each night over the two weekends, with attendees looking forward to all their beloved activities next year. This year also sees the comeback of the petting zoo.
"We appreciate our sponsors since many events are offered at no cost," Kolacz stated.
The event for this year begins on Thursday, July 17, featuring extended garage sales and retail promotions throughout the day, followed by a women's golf competition at Scenic Golf and Country Club starting at 10 a.m. Food truck vendors will be available all weekend between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m. in the city's parking area. The Anything Goes Games will take place at the baseball field at 6 p.m., alongside the Scheurer Kiddie Cruise scheduled for 7:45 p.m. and the Sunset Classic 5K Run/Walk commencing at 8 p.m. along the Scheurer Path to Fitness.
The activities for Friday kick off early, featuring a pickleball competition starting at 8:30 a.m., along with the Farmers Market and Craft Fair taking place in the city's parking lot from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. At 10 a.m., the men's golf championship begins at Scenic Golf and Country Club. Additionally, guided visits commence at the Thumb Octagon Barn (offering transportation from the bandshell at both 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.), and the ongoing art exhibition, set up at 78 S. Main, opens for viewing until 4 p.m.
Kids' activities on Friday begin at 11:30 a.m. with game sessions held at local businesses in the city center. The lineup for the children's parade, starting at 11 a.m., will be set up at the library. Pigeon First United Methodist Church will offer kid-friendly games and refreshments between 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
The celebrations on Friday will feature Jedi Mind Trip performing on the bandshell stage from 6 until 10 p.m., with a pause at 7:30 p.m. for the unveiling of the Favorite Pet and the coronation of the Beautiful Baby, Prince, Princess, and Queen. The event concludes with the Glow Disk Golf Tournament starting at 9:30 p.m. at Rotary Park.
Saturday will be a busy day for Summerfest, featuring the Laker Friends and Family Co-Ed Softball Tournament starting at 9 a.m., coinciding with the Family Picture Scavenger Hunt taking place at Pigeon Hardware.
Certainly, the highlight of the day is the Grand Parade beginning at 11 a.m. in the city center. Rec Park will feature a petting zoo and mobile eateries, with children able to enjoy the bounce houses from noon until 9 p.m., as well as the foam pit between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
The band shell will host Coated from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, featuring a cornhole competition beginning at 2 p.m. Later, at 6 p.m., the musical act Outlaw’d will perform, followed by line dance classes and a raffle for a $2,500 cash prize at 7:30 p.m. The day concludes with fireworks at sunset at Rec Park.
On Sunday, community worship starts at the Rec Park tent at 10 a.m. The art exhibition and food truck vendors operate between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The popular Auto, Motorcycle, and Tractor Display happens from noon until 3 p.m. along Dwight Gascho Drive. Suzi Marsh performs on the bandshell stage from noon to 3 p.m. Concurrently, the last day of the Farmers Market and Handicraft Fair occurs at the tennis courts, while individuals with good aim can test their skills at the dunk tank located at Rec Park.
