New Rochelle Summer Music Academy: Boost Your Skills This Summer
The echo of violins, cellists, trumpets, trombones, and drumming sounds filled the corridors of New Rochelle High School one recent morning, as budding musicians sharpened their talents at the New Rochelle Public Schools' Summer Music Academy.
Every morning for four days each week during July, children in grades four to six attend classes focused on orchestra, band, and overall music education.
Matthew Lucero, who oversees performing and visual arts within the school district, stated that the academy offers a chance for aspiring musicians along with those having prior musical training to "enhance their understanding of a musical instrument regardless of whether they have played one previously."

The program is managed by members of the school's music staff along with high school student musicians. Newcomers are placed in individual groups, whereas those who have been playing for one or two years in the junior band or orchestra develop their skills through group performance experiences. The academy concludes with two shows on July 30 and 31.

Marcela Arnao, 11 years old, is in her second year at the music academy and mentioned that the institution has improved her skills as a violin player.
I've developed various abilities, and I've discovered new methods for playing my instrument," she stated, continuing, "I truly appreciate how welcoming they are to individuals who aren't skilled with their instruments yet, as they assist them in improving.
Lucero mentioned, "What truly thrilling is witnessing the happiness of every student each day. It isn’t solely focused on the music; it's about the shared experience, developing relationships, and acquiring abilities that go beyond playing their instruments. This is what makes our time at the Summer Music Academy so rewarding."
A school year consists of 180 days, each one distinct from the others and different across various institutions. Students vary, as do teachers and the overall school environments. In this place, our photographers capture what makes our school days truly extraordinary—the individuals, initiatives, and occurrences that have an impact, every single day.
