Lanzante Celebrates 1995 Le Mans Victory with Tri-Seater Supercar

  • Lanzante, the company that operated the McLaren F1 GTR that won at Le Mans in 1995, is honoring this legendary vehicle with a new supercar named the 95-59.
  • The 95-59 seems to be derived from the McLaren 750S but includes a more refined and subtle carbon fiber exterior.
  • Just 59 units are scheduled for manufacturing, with prices beginning significantly above $1 million.

Triple-seater hypercars paying tribute to the McLaren F1 have, oddly, turned into a fashion. Initially appeared the elongated, sleek McLaren Speedtail , capped at 106 units and boasting an advertised maximum speed of 250 miles per hour. Following that, Gordon Murray revived his legendary 1990s creation with the GMA T.50, featuring a naturally aspirated V-12 engine and a six-speed manual transmission similar to the F1. A fresh entrant has now entered this extremely specialized market—the Lanzante 95-59—which made its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

A modest British firm known for repairing and restoring exclusive, high-powered cars also boasts a lengthy background in racing competitions. Without question, their most notable success on the racecourse occurred when the Lanzante-managed Kokusai Kaihatsu Racing squad secured top honors at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans using a dark-colored McLaren F1 GTR. The 95-59 was designed as a homage to this accomplishment, marking Lanzante's initial model to bear the brand’s name and emblem—a symbol featuring the Hindu deity Ganesha.

As per Lanzante, the 95-59 is built upon a "modern McLaren chassis," and from the shape of the roof, it seems to utilize the framework of the McLaren 750S. Lanzante modified the exterior panels, incorporating a more refined and less aggressive front design. The flowing front wheel arches transition into a pronounced indentation beneath the side windows, while the back section includes an adjustable spoiler positioned over C-shaped tail lights and a central exhaust system.

The entire vehicle is constructed using carbon fiber, with Lanzante targeting a curb weight of approximately 2700 pounds. It features McLaren’s famous twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine, which has been modified by Lanzante to produce 850 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. For comparison, the McLaren 750S delivers 740 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque while having an approximate weight of 3200 pounds. A seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox transmits power to the rear wheels.

Lanzante has not yet revealed the inside, but the three-seater design benefits from ample daylight due to glass sections in the roof. The model's name, 95-59, honors the year Lanzante claimed victory at Le Mans and the number displayed on the winning vehicle. A total of only 59 units will be produced, with prices beginning above $1 million.
