Cars You Wish Were Available in Your Country

Last week We questioned you about which car you would like to be available in your country. and you all agreed on multiple models that you would like to see available in the United States. All the major ones I had in mind were mentioned, and the general agreement seems to be that the Jalopnik readers want to see more compact and affordable cars . Imagine that.
Right now in the U.S., we (hardly) have the Fiat 500e which measures 143 inches in length, the Mini Cooper a two-door model measuring 152.6 inches, and the Mazda MX-5 Miata At 154.1 inches, the lengths start increasing much more significantly after that point. There’s a serious shortage of compact vehicles, and the three smallest cars mentioned earlier aren’t actually the most affordable options available. The U.S. automotive market is currently in an unusual position—one that has become more costly than ever. However, I’m heartened to see so many people advocating for smaller, cheaper cars. Anyway, these are the models that you might hope would be available in your country but aren’t. If you didn’t get a chance to share your response, feel free to add it in the comments below.

Suzuki Jimny

Suzuki Jimny. I feel a bit envious whenever I spot one of them around here with Baja California license plates.
Submitted by: Robzilla1793
It's not surprising that many of you would like the Suzuki Jimny available in the U.S., and I'm puzzled as to why. Why does everyone desire a compact, budget-friendly, stylish, durable off-road vehicle that essentially functions as a mini G-Wagon at just a fraction of the price?
I jest—if the Jimny was available here, I’d have one, and I’m pretty sure an astonishingly large number of you would as well. Ahem, Suzuki!
Holden Utes

Holden utility vehicles. Also the Honda E. I believe it would be ideal for my daughter. I really want to purchase one for her.

Every Australian ute is incredibly stylish, and I'd really enjoy seeing them speeding down U.S. highways. Your daughter might also appreciate the ute!
Renault 5 E-Tech

Renault 5 E-Tech. There is a greater demand for compact electric vehicles, and this model stands as the premier choice at the pinnacle of its class.
Submitted by: SimplyGregster
The Renault 5 E-Tech received lots of positive feedback in the comments, yet it still seems illogical. Why would someone desire a compact, budget-friendly, quirky electric vehicle that looks incredibly stylish? Are you intelligent or what?
Mazda 6 Estate

Mazda6 wagon.
Unfortunately, I don't believe you'll be able to find it anywhere with the Turbo engine and manual.

Every time I spot a first-generation Mazda 6 wagon, I pause for a second look—it’s really impressive.
Honda E

The Honda e and Alpine A110 could create an affordable, enjoyable two-car collection for a garage.
Submitted by: Joel Sinclair
The Honda E also received many mentions, and I would really enjoy driving it. It's a compact rear-wheel-drive electric vehicle from Honda featuring subtle design, which likely means it wouldn't be very popular commercially, yet it's fascinating to picture.
Isuzu D-Max

Thailand's reliable vehicle, the Isuzu D-Max. It has a moderate size and appears fairly good when measured against modern pickup trucks. I'm talking about the bulk and grille designs of the F-150 and Silverado. Moreover, we ought to reintroduce Isuzu.
Submitted by: Giantsgiants
It has always seemed odd to me when automotive manufacturers release pickup trucks that aren’t available in the U.S., which is a country that purchases millions of trucks annually. However, I can see how our stringent emission regulations and vehicle safety requirements complicate matters.
Alpine A110

Without a doubt, the Alpine A110. A compact sports car that prioritizes lightweight construction over huge horsepower? Absolutely.
Submitted by: Poorsche
The Alpine A110 has received plenty of admiration, and for good reason. When I watched The Smoking Tire's latest video featuring it, I felt really jealous that they had the chance to take it for a spin.
BYD EVs

Are there any BYD electric vehicles? To be fair, I haven't seen one up close and have only viewed pictures, videos, and reviews, but having a reasonably priced, good-quality EV would be great.
Submitted by: Evil Monkey 2
I understand that automotive manufacturers fear Chinese electric vehicles, yet customers are eager for them. Cost-effective EVs that don’t cost $10,000 more than traditional gasoline-powered models could make a significant difference, and as everyone knows, the U.S. tends to resist change.
Volkswagen Golf R Estate

The VW Golf R Estate is probably the only model that would entice me away from my MK7 R and MK7 GSW.
Submitted by: Zachary
I would be really excited to see Golf R Estates driving on American highways.
Functional High-Speed Rail

I don't want any new or different vehicles around here until we bring in what we truly require—operational high-speed rail and public transportation.
Until we achieve that, nobody will purchase a kei car that isn't capable of making the three-state trip to Grandma's house; no one will buy a Topolino that can't actually be driven in the rain; no one will opt for anything besides what they currently buy—vehicles that can handle all situations simply because we require cars that can do everything.

I couldn't concur with you more, Buckfiddious. Regrettably, the government and those driven by wealth, who fear taking actions that won’t instantly boost their individual fortunes, share a different perspective. Hopefully, The Greater Good will be placed at the top of the agenda before too long.
Volkswagen Up! GTI

The Volkswagen Polo GTI or perhaps the Up GTI. The Golf GTI available in the U.S. has increased in power, dimensions, and cost, yet Volkswagen's smaller GTI models remain closer to the initial GTI concept, which aligns better with my preference for a vehicle.
Submitted by: Patrick Simpson
I completely agree with you! The never-ending quest for continuous "enhancement" has transformed the GTI into something quite distinct from its initial form. I decided to concentrate on the Up! GTI since it's my preferred model, but I would be thrilled to see a Polo GTI available here as well.
Hyundai Starex Diesel

Hyundai Starex with a 2.5-liter diesel engine. Spent some time living in the Philippines. The fuel costs are high there, and these minivans are excellent for traveling, offering ample space and good fuel efficiency.
Submitted by: David DeHoag
The Staria van that took over from the Starex looks way more stylish, which is why I'm sharing an image of it. I'd go for it even without considering the engine type, though diesel would certainly be the coolest option.
Toyota Hilux Diesel

I'm looking for a four-door Hilux diesel 4x4 with manual transmission.
Submitted by: Bruno
I think the Hilux could dominate the entire U.S. truck industry and outperform those expensive, trouble-prone big-name trucks.
Volkswagen California

Some of the VW California models. Unfortunately, they aren't sold in California.
Submitted by: Joseph E
Being a Volkswagen enthusiast living in California, I believe I spotted Volkswagen conducting photo sessions featuring the California model within the state, even though they aren't available for sale here. I really hope it becomes available here as well!
Honda Fit

Reintroduce the Honda Fit, also known as the Honda Jazz, which continues to be available in other regions.
Submitted by: Bradley B.
The Fit has evolved into quite an iconic vehicle these days. I understand that Honda aims to focus on models that generate higher profits, yet the latest Fit appears impressive and I believe it would continue to perform well in sales.
