Actor Regains Consciousness After Bacterial Infection Battle in 'Narcos: Mexico' Star's Recovery Journey

Actor Manuel Masalva, recognized for his performance in Narcos: Mexico , has come out of weeks spent in a medically controlled unconscious state, providing insight into his traumatic experience.

Masalva shared in his first posted about suffering from a bacterial infection which led him to spend 105 days in a hospital in Dubai. "I'm recovering. I deeply appreciate everyone's support, both past and ongoing," Masalva wrote in Spanish. "More than ever, I believe that unity brings power. This journey has just started; there's still a long way to go, but I feel fortunate, strong, renewed, and supported. ... God has granted me another opportunity at life. God has given me new life."

Today marks day 105, yet I remain conscious, with sunlight continuously pouring through," the actor said. "It took 81 days before I could take a breath of clean air, witnessing the constant movement of countless individuals within this remarkable hospital, where I was renewed, in a different culture that has exceeded ours in compassion and spiritual depth.

Masalva finished his message by stating that he does not completely grasp "everything happening or only a portion of it," yet he feels deeply thankful. "It has felt like forever, and there are still some pieces missing. All I want to do is offer the greatest gratitude possible to God, my family, my physicians, and everyone who has stood behind me from the beginning of this journey. I am indebted to each of you; without your support and divine guidance, none of this would be real," he added.

An actor from 'Narcos: Mexico' Underwent Urgent Surgical Procedure Last March

In April, The Los Angeles Times It was reported that Masalva landed in Dubai on March 18. Just within two days, he suffered from intense discomfort due to a bacterial infection. On March 26, he underwent urgent surgical procedures, yet the infection progressed into his lungs, resulting in a drug-induced coma.

"Physicians have stated that Manuel is reacting to the therapy aimed at combating the bacteria, and gradually his body is becoming stronger," said Jaime Jaramillo Espinosa, Masalva's agent. Entertainment Weekly Back in April. "There is positive news every day, and it should only take a few days or a couple of weeks before his medical condition improves enough for him to come out of sedation and become conscious again. For the time being, we just have to wait, since this is a gradual process."

Masalva has been featured in more than a dozen movies and television programs, such as Narcos: Mexico a program centered around Mexico's narcotics industry which concluded in 2021 following three seasons. The series also included performances from Diego Luna, Michael Peña, and Tenoch Huerta Mejía.
