Youth Hub in Boston Launches DIY SOS Appeal Before Full Rollout

A newly established youth hub in Boston has issued a 'DIY SOS' call as it gets ready for its complete unveiling.

The Boston Youth Hub launched at Pescod Hall, situated between the Pescod Square Shopping Centre and the Rebos Building, on April 14.

Described as 'a secure environment for individuals aged between 12 and 19', this initiative is being organised by the health and well-being organisation Tonic Health, working alongside Boston Borough Council and Lincolnshire Police.

The features consist of a swimming pool table, a ping-pong table, a dartboard, a 75-inch television, two gaming consoles, and a sitting area.

The sessions are available at no cost and operate on a come-and-go basis. They take place on Wednesdays and Fridays between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm, as well as Saturdays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Next week, however, the hub will be shut down as the building undergoes final renovations for its new purpose (previously, it served as a Mediterranean restaurant).

Tonic Youth is seeking volunteers to assist with the refurbishment project, scheduled to take place from Tuesday through Friday, May 27-30, and this initiative is being called 'DIY SOS Week'.

Of particular need is an electrician, however the charity would also like to hear from anyone willing to lend a hand with painting the interior, removing parts of the old kitchen, or weeding an outdoor area.

Neutral-coloured paint with either a matte or satin finish along with dark wood stain or varnish has been requested.

Michael Morris, the founder and CEO of Tonic Health, expressed his deep gratitude to everyone who has already extended their support.

He stated that, at the end of the day, the aim is to develop an area where the youth from the town can have a say in how it evolves, allowing them to determine what services and facilities it provides.

"I want it to belong to them," he stated.
