Unite and Wander: Discover the Bliss of Strolling Together in the UK

The Ulster Federation of Rambling Clubs (UFRC) is organising Walk Week, which takes place from Saturday to Saturday, June 2-8. This event includes 14 guided hikes led by 12 member walking clubs throughout Northern Ireland.

Everyone can join these walks at no cost, catering to people from various origins, age groups, and those who possess an adequate level of walking fitness.

Walk Week forms part of an extensive initiative aimed at motivating greater numbers of individuals to discover the benefits of walking within welcoming, communal environments. Whether it’s woodland tracks, seaside promenades, city parks, or mountainous treks, attendees have the opportunity to traverse picturesque pathways whilst connecting with others and placing emphasis on well-being.

Bert Rima, the Chairperson of the Ulster Federation of Rambling Clubs, stated: "Being the UFRC Chairperson, I am delighted to observe that 12 of our member walking clubs throughout Northern Ireland are initiating 14 weekly walks aimed at bringing individuals from various backgrounds together."

Strolling is an effective method to enhance both your bodily and psychological health, and these occasions provide a fantastic chance for individuals to participate, receive support, and enjoy the numerous advantages of walking within a secure and welcoming setting.

We warmly invite people who might not have participated in group walks previously – especially women and members of ethnic minority groups – to join us and make that initial step. Everybody has the right to feel included – and they most certainly do.

The project is backed by Sport NI and supports their "Be Seen, Be Heard, Belong" campaign aimed at encouraging inclusive involvement in sports activities throughout Northern Ireland.

Richard Archibald, the interim CEO of Sport NI, stated: "We're thrilled to back Walk Week 2025 and the Ulster Federation of Rambling Clubs as walking clubs throughout Northern Ireland welcome new participants to their routes."

Walking offers significant advantages for our physical and mental well-being, hence we are motivating everybody to utilise Walk Week as an opportunity to locate their closest walking group.

“As the weather improves, it’s an excellent chance to venture outside and become more active, taking full advantage of our stunning scenery and perhaps forming some new bonds as well.”

Jayne Evans, a Development Officer at UFRC, commented: "We're delighted to assist walking clubs throughout Northern Ireland in providing individuals an opportunity to forge connections, engage in physical activity, and enjoy the remarkable advantages for both their physical and mental well-being through group walks."

Regardless of whether you're an experienced hiker or just beginning your journey, these complimentary activities offer a fantastic chance to connect with others who share your interests, explore fresh trails, and relish the communal aspect of hiking.

“There is a limit on spaces, hence we urge all participants to book in advance, make that initial move, and discover the benefits of walking with a group.”

Walk Week 2025 is perfect for those who want to experience group walking, boost their self-assurance, or make progress towards better fitness within a welcoming and sociable environment.
