In the meantime, Imperial Beach – a favourite spot in the Bay Area – followed closely with 82 percent.

Following closely was Linda Mar Beach in Pacifica, California, which recorded a coverage of 71 per cent. This beach is particularly renowned as a beloved West Coast attraction and one of the biggest in Pacifica.

The sixth highest concentration of contaminated water, exhibiting a bacterial level of 64 percent, was found at the South Sound Thea Foss Floating Dock located in Tacoma, Washington.

Another site in the Sunshine State, Ballard Park, also showed a high rate of 52 percent.

Places famous for their consistently warm climate throughout most of the year weren’t the sole offenders when it comes to pollution levels. For instance, Windmill Beach in Sag Harbor, New York, scored a contamination rate of 43 percent.

The New York beach can be found in the Hamptons, a favoured summertime retreat for people along the eastern seaboard.

Once more, another spot in California appeared on the surprising list, with San Luis Creek Mouth at Avila Beach recording 38 percent high levels of bacteria, according to the study findings.

Niel Dilworth, who serves as the chair of the San Luis Obispo Chapter Surfrider Foundation and coordinates the Blue Task Force, noted that despite being at the bottom of the list, the figure remains worrisome for the area.

They similarly encouraged individuals to rally with them in 'urging Congress to dismiss the Trump administration’s suggestion to cut funding for the Environmental Protection Agency and instead back strong financing for the BEACH Act along with various other initiatives aimed at protecting our waters.'
