Lubrizol Employee's Giant Fundraiser Buys New Bed for Rotherham Hospice

The science firm Lubrizol has aided a significant fundraising effort by one of its employees, with the proceeds going towards purchasing a new bed for Rotherham Hospice to assist families during farewell moments.

Jane Micklethwaite, an employee at Lubrizol’s Barnsley location, amassed significant funds for Rotherham Hospice’s Bed Appeal by organising a major fundraising event at The Station Hotel on Aldwarke Road.

With performances from various artists, along with an auction and raffle, the evening's proceeds were augmented by Lubrizol’s matching fund initiative totaling approximately £5,000. This sum will be used to purchase one of the 18 beds that the hospice intends to acquire for its inpatient facility.

The hospice’s appeal is for upgraded beds so that loved ones can say goodbye in comfort and dignity.

Jane mentioned that she made it her mission to fundraise for the hospice after witnessing firsthand the excellence of its services via a close family member.

She mentioned that the standard of care offered was a "huge relief" during a difficult period, and she wished to repay the hospice by fundraising.

She commented, "It was an excellent evening, and we managed to raise almost £4,500, which was fantastic. It's wonderful how Lubrizol supports fundraising efforts with matched funding, and I've been truly impressed by their kindness in backing both myself and Rotherham Hospice. They genuinely take care of individuals, and having their assistance has made a significant impact."

Rotherham Hospice’s campaign aims to fundraise for 14 beds along with two special 'cuddle beds' – which consist of two adjacent beds designed so family members can comfort their loved ones during end-of-life care.

Ruth Wallbank, who leads fundraising efforts at the hospice, stated that contributions are immensely important due to the significant increase in operating expenses.

She stated: "A huge thank you goes out to Jane Micklethwaite and Lubrizol for their substantial contribution, which significantly strengthens our fundraising campaign."

A subsequent fundraising event for Rotherham Hospice will take place at The Station Hotel on June 14.
