Timothée Chalamet Reveals Why Nolan Put Him in a Headlock and Gave a Noogie: 'It Was Shocking'
Currently 30, the Oscar nominee portrayed the son of Matthew McConaughey in the 2014 film "Interstellar."

Timothée Chalamet says director Christopher NolanHe now felt significantly younger than his 30 years.
Chalamet remembered a joyful meeting with the director of the science fiction filmInterstellarat a recent showing of the movie that they both attended. He discussed the experience during a screening for one of his other films,Call Me By Your Nameboth components of a career retrospective featuring the work of an Oscar-nominated individual, presented by the American Cinematheque and Cinespia in Los Angeles.
Every moment with Nolan, I felt completely like I was 17 again," Chalamet mentioned at the Feb. 13 gathering. "I went back home, and it was surprising... That was an intense drive home for me. I thought, 'Goodness, I feel like those 13 years didn't even pass.'
Chalamet was still in his teens when he collaborated with Nolan on the 2014 movie. He portrayed Tom, the son ofMatthew McConaugheyCooper, one of the astronauts tasked with finding a new home for humanity.

We were taking photos together," Chalamet said about the director, "and he grabbed me in a headlock and started giving me a noogie. I was like, 'Holy cow, Chris Nolan is giving me a noogie right now.'
He reminded the Academy Award-winning filmmaker that he had grown up. However, Nolan remained unaffected.
"I told him, 'Chris, I'm a 30-year-old man,'" Chalamet said.
He mentioned that Nolan had replied, "Not to me, you aren't."

The men developed a strong connection due to their shared experience during the film's production, which also featured Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Ellen Burstyn, John Lithgow, Mackenzie Foy, and David Oyelowo. The movie received an Oscar for Best Achievement in Visual Effects.

Interstellarwas especially significant to Chalamet, who had not yet appeared in the movies he is now most recognized for, likeCall Me By Your Name (2017), Little Women (2019), Wonka (2023), A Complete Unknown (2024), and last year's Marty Surpreme, for which he isnominatedfor his third Academy Award for acting at the ceremony on March 15.
Although my part is not very large inInterstellar— I believe I was number 12 on the call sheet — this movie came to me during a period in my life, in my career, when things were definitely not settled yet," Chalamet said at theInterstellarscreening. "And it's continued to be my favorite project I've ever been part of. It's the movie I've watched the most, of all the films ever created in human history."
Up next, Chalamet will appear inDune: Part Three, set to hit theaters on December 18.
