Soulmate Doctors Die 22 Days Apart After 58-Year Marriage

A couple of physicians, who had been married for 58 years, passed away only 22 days apart this year, according to their heartbroken family.

George William Moran passed away due to acute myeloid leukemia on January 13, and on February 4, Marguerite T. Moran died as a result of complications fromAlzheimer'sillness. They were both 82.

George and Marguerite spent the rest of their lives in Baltimore, where for many years following their retirement, they provided assistance at a medical clinic to support patients who lacked adequate care.

Marguerite, who was born in Brooklyn, New York, was the first member of her family to go to college, as stated in anobituary in The Baltimore Sun.

Her mother, Carmela Falco, held a position as a machine operator in a clothing factory, while her father, Alexander D'Agostino, served as a sanitation employee.

She earned her degree from St. John's University and New York Medical College, then finished her residency at the University ofMaryland in College Park.

"My mother was a well-regarded geriatric physician recognized for her caring and insightful treatment," said her daughter Christina Kitchen to the Sun.

George, who was also born in New York City, was the child of homemaker Wilma Trommer and George Moran Sr., a high-ranking employee at New York Bell Telephone Co. His father also participated in World War II.

George graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School, St. John's University, and the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

George and Marguerite connected during their final year at St. John's University, a private Roman Catholic institution with locations in Manhattan and Staten Island.

"The well-worn story says that Marguerite joined the chemistry class late. Dad let her join his lab group only after his partner said she would 'do all the work.' He soon found out not just her hard work, but also a person full of passion and determination," their daughter Esther Hamm told the Sun.

"It was our mother who truly recognized and grasped him in a way no one else could," Hamm added.

After completing his training in internal medicine and cardiology at the Veterans Administration Hospital and the University of Maryland, George began his career at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, where he led the cardiology department for twenty years.

George was characterized by his coworkers as earnest, reflective, practical, and possessing strong discernment.

"His sole drive was doing what was best for the patient," said Dr. Marc A. Mugmon.

Marguerite maintained a private medical practice at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital. Additionally, while serving as a faculty member at the University of Maryland Medical School, she guided and supported nurse practitioners.

My parents were not only committed doctors ... they also served as humanitarians and social advocates," said daughter Ruth Moran. "They consistently stood up for what was fair and just for everyone.

The couple's three living daughters are Ruth Moran from Jackson, Wyoming; Christina Kitchen from Jackson, Wyoming; and Esther Hamm from Boise, Idaho; along with six grandchildren.

George is also survived by his brother, John Moran from Phoenix, Maryland; and his nephew, Bryan Moran from Frederick, Maryland.
