Polestar to Unveil Four New Electric Models in Three Years

Polestar revealed a product strategy, aiming to introduce four new models within the next three years.
The major update is the introduction of a newPolestar 4a new version set to arrive this year, according to the company, which claims it will combine "the area of a mansion and the flexibility of an SUV."
The Polestar 5starts delivering in other markets this year but will not be available in the United States yet, and the next-generationPolestar 2is also not confirmed in America.

Polestar's shift towards becoming an independent electric vehicle brand has had difficulty gaining momentum. Following its launch with a$150K hybrid coupe, the Swedish car company got down to work with the electric Polestar 2 fastback. However, its first SUV, thePolestar 3, stumbled out of the gate in late 2024 and has experienced ongoing software problems, while the smaller Polestar 4 encountered delays and only started arriving at American customers by the end of 2025. However, Polestar is now ready to take a more aggressive approach and is set to introduce a series of new vehicles, announcing today plans for four new models to be released over the next three years.

Four new models feature some vehicles that were previously announced. The first one is the Polestar 5, a four-door top-tier vehicle with dynamic design and up to 884 horsepower. It was unveiled last year, and Polestar states that deliveries will start this summer. However, its availability in the U.S. market remains uncertain, as the 5 is manufactured in China. A Polestar spokesperson mentioned that the Polestar 5 won't be heading to the U.S. for this initial delivery phase, explaining "a staggered approach to the launch," and added that "availability for customers in the U.S. will be announced at a later time."

The Polestar 5 will be succeeded by an exciting new version of the windowless Polestar 4. Although the company has not provided many details, CEO Michael Lohscheller mentioned in a press release that this new vehicle will "merge the space of an estate with the flexibility of an SUV," and highlighted Sweden's long tradition of producing station wagons. We anticipate it to have a more station wagon-style shape, yet with a higher ride height similar to an SUV. The teaser suggests that this model is expected to include a real rear window. This version will be unveiled this year and is confirmed for the U.S., with deliveries set to begin in the fourth quarter.

Following that, the automaker intends to introduce a new Polestar 2 sedan, with an anticipated release in early 2027. Although it is still available internationally, the Polestar 2 left the U.S. market after the 2025 model year because of higher tariffs on vehicles manufactured in China. A Polestar spokesperson statedCar and Driverthat the company is still considering if the next-generation sedan will be available in the U.S., with manufacturing continuing to occur in China.

The last component of the puzzle is the Polestar 7, a new small SUV set to arrive in 2028 and verified to be coming to the United States.Polestar revealed the 7 model last year., and so far it remains uncertain how it will integrate into a lineup that already features the Polestar 3, which is on the larger end of the compact SUV category, and the Polestar 4, which merges the boundaries between a large hatchback and a small SUV.

Polestar states that it anticipates "low double-digit volume growth" this year, as it keeps expanding its retail network by 30 percent. Not included in the list of new products is thePolestar 6, a high-performance two-door electric vehicle first showcased through the O2 concept in 2022. That same year, Polestar announced it wouldcreate the electric sports car in 2026, but towards the end of last year stated it would bepostponed until the end of the decade. Polestar is focusing on the core of the market with its new SUVs and the successor to the Polestar 2, as the Swedish car company aims to strengthen its standing in the industry.
