Michael Imperioli: Sopranos Mobsters Would Back Trump in 2026

Over a quarter of a century since its debut, the groundbreaking Emmy-award-winning crime seriesThe Sopranoscontinues to be a film that people enjoy watching again, offering a classic analysis of social classes and the American ideal.

Covering six seasons from 1999 to 2007, the HBO series created by David Chase marked the beginning of a new era for high-quality television productions.Mad Men to Breaking Bad that similarly skewered capitalism and masculinity. That's why star Michael Imperioli, who received an Emmy for playing Tony Soprano's (James Gandolfini) apprentice Christopher Moltisani, suggested that the show's characters would probably share similar conservative values in today's world and ironically support MAGA and President Donald Trump.

"The program focuses on the American dream, particularly from the perspective of immigrants," he said. The IndependentIn a recent interview, "I believe that would be one of the major themes if it were produced today: the current situation in the U.S. and the actions being taken towards immigrants. The truth is, all these characters are immigrants, but I think many of them might actually support Trump. It's strange, really. When Italians arrived - and people tend to forget or choose not to acknowledge it - many of them were undocumented."

The Sopranos centers on the titular father figure, Tony Soprano, as he balances his responsibilities to his family and his involvement with a close-knit criminal organization, the mob, during the 2000s. The core of the narrative starts with his first session with a therapist to address and explore his personal and work-related issues, which lead to episodes of anxiety.

Imperioli is currently touring the U.K. and Ireland with co-stars Vincent Pastore and Steve Schirripa, along with Schirripa'spopular rewatch podcast, Talking Sopranos, to live audiences.
