Lindsey Vonn's Successful Surgery and Return Home for Recovery

Lindsey Vonn shared on Instagram on Saturday that her most recent surgery was successful and she intends to return to the United States.
The 41-year-old U.S. skier suffered a fracture to herleft leg 13 seconds into her downhill competitionSunday. Vonn had trained earlierwith a torn ACL in the same left leg, an injury she suffered just days before the Olympics began. She underwent her fourth surgery on Saturday and may require additional procedures once she returns to the U.S.
Even though things concluded in a certain way, Vonn stated that her ACL injury was unrelated to the accident and that she didn't want her fans to be upset.
Please, don't feel sad," Vonn wrote. "I embrace empathy, love, and support with an open heart, but I ask that you not show sadness or pity. I hope this gives you the strength to keep striving, because that's what I'm doing and what I will continue to do. Always.
Vonn also mentioned that following the accident, she was aware there could be repercussions, but felt it was a risk worth taking.
Life offers no certainties. This is the risk involved in pursuing your aspirations; you could experience failure, but without attempting, you will never discover what's possible.
Please don't be sad. The journey was worth the stumble. At night, when I shut my eyes, I have no regrets, and my love for skiing continues. I still look forward to the time when I'll be back at the peak of the mountain. And I will.
Vonn retired in 2019 but chose to come back in 2024 after undergoing a knee replacement. A highly accomplished skier, Vonn has earned three Olympic medals (one gold and two bronze) along with eight World Championship medals. In December, she made history as the oldest winner of a downhill skiing World Cup event in St. Moritz, marking her first World Cup victory since 2018.
