Cummins Pays Ram 2500 Diesel Owners to Fix Their Trucks
Ram and Cummins Increase the Rewards
More than a year ago, Cummins committed to paying $1.675 billion following an EPA investigation that revealed its 6.7-liter diesel engine emitted excessive nitrogen oxide during actual driving conditions. In other words, they harm the environment. This engine is used in a large quantity ofRam heavy-duty pickups, so the effect was significant.
A portion of the agreement involved a commitment to update the emission software on approximately 630,000 units.Ram2500 and 3500 models produced between 2013 and 2019. Cummins must ensure that at least 85 percent of these trucks are repaired within three years.
Last year, Cummins attempted to make the offer more appealing byfree extended warrantiesSocial media reminders, and even a few small merchandise packages. It helped, but not enough owners attended.
Now Cummins is increasing the pressure. Complete Emissions Recall 67A and you'll receive $500 – even more if you act quickly.
What the Solution Truly Achieves
The recall, referred to as Emissions Recall 67A, mainly affects 2013–2018 modelsRam HDTrucks featuring the 6.7-liter Cummins turbo diesel engine. Certain 2019 models were addressed through a different initiative.
The solution is simple. Take your truck to a Ram dealership, and they will install the updated emissions software. This typically takes under an hour, and there is no cost involved.
The update modifies how the truck injects and handles diesel exhaust fluid, reducing nitrogen oxide emissions at the tailpipe. Cummins states that most owners will not observe any decrease in performance or fuel efficiency, although some 2016–2018 models may experience a loss of approximately half a mile per gallon in city or light-load conditions.
To ease concerns, Cummins is expanding the warranty as part of the recall. You will receive 10 years or 120,000 miles from the date the truck was first registered, or four years and 48,000 miles from when you receive the update – whichever provides a longer period.
Even so, many owners – especially those withtrucks with high mileage that appear to be in good condition– are holding back. That is probably why Cummins is now providing more cash.
What’s the Catch?
Owners must finish Recall 67A at a certified dealership, then submit a claim throughCummins’ recall website. After the update is verified, you may apply for the $500 reward.
The $1,000 reward is offered to the first 750 eligible owners who finish the recall and file their claim following February 17, 2026. Once that date passes, the incentive will decrease to $500. The recall itself is free, but you will only receive the payment if your vehicle is updated with the new emissions software.
For Cummins, providing these incentives is more cost-effective than failing to meet the 85 percent completion goal and incurring greater fines. For vehicle owners, it's a matter of determining if a software update and additional warranty protection are worth as much as $1,000.
