Conan O’Brien's Final Farewell to Rob and Michele Reiner Before Their Passing

On Friday (February 20), O’Brien contemplated the surprise of encountering them at his holiday gathering.the evening prior to their deaths.

"I was familiar with Rob and Michele, and as time went on, I grew closer to them, spending a lot of time together," the 62-year-old former late-night host said.The New Yorker.

"My wife and I saw them frequently, and they were so — they were simply wonderful people," O’Brien added.

And to experience the moment of saying goodnight to someone and watching them departdiscover the following day that they have lefthe said, noting that he was 'in shock for quite some time after that.'

There's no other way to describe it," O'Brien said. "It's just really - it's so terrible. It's just so terrible.

The Night Before

Rob and Michele went to O’Brien's Christmas gathering in December 2025. As perTMZ,Rob reportedly had a noisy argument with his son,Nick Reiner, during the incident. The next day, Rob and Michele were discovered deceased in their Brentwood residence.

Later that evening, Nick, 32,was taken into custody and remained in jail without being released on bondHe was officially accused a few days later of two instances of first-degree murder.

Processing the Loss

O'Brien mentioned that events of this nature lead to an abrupt encounter with death.

“It's something you don't contemplate— if you're fortunate, you don't give it much thought during the first couple of decades of your life — and then people start asking, 'Did you hear?' and you feel dazed for a week," he said.

The Ongoing Case

Nick appeared in court for the first time last month without entering a plea, as his lawyer stated it was "too soon" in the proceedings.

After his lawyer, Alan Jackson, later withdrew from the case, Nick's court appearance was delayed. He is scheduled to plead guilty during a hearing on February 23.
