Cocoa Motorcyclist Killed in Merritt Island Two-Vehicle Crash, FHP Says

A 21-year-old man from Cocoa passed away on Friday, February 20, following a collision between his motorcycle and a car on Merritt Island.

A man, whose identity was not disclosed in a release from the Florida Highway Patrol on Friday night, was traveling south on Courtenay Parkway near Duval Street just after 7 p.m. when his car was hit by a northbound 2012 Toyota Sienna.The Toyota moved directly into the path of the motorcycle when the driver was trying to turn left from Courtenay, according to authorities.

The front of the Toyota collided with the right side of the motorcycle, resulting in the rider being thrown off the bike, according to FHP. He was transported to Cape Canaveral Hospital, where he was declared dead.

The operator of the Toyota, a 64-year-old woman from Merritt Island, suffered slight injuries and stayed at the location of the crash.

The accident is still being looked into.
