Baby Food Recall Over Health Risk in US

CONNECTICUT (WTNH) — A baby food product available in Connecticut and 48 additional states has been recalled because of a potential health hazard, as reported by theFDA.

Initiative Foods has initiated a recall of Tippy Toes brand Apple Pear Banana Fruit puree because of high amounts of patulin. This naturally occurring compound is created by molds that can develop in different types of fruits, as stated by the FDA.

Alert: Chocolate products manufactured in Harwinton are being recalled in three states because of a potential almond allergy risk.

Extended contact with patulin may result in several negative health effects, such as possible immune system weakening, nerve injury, headaches, fever, and vomiting, as stated by the FDA.

The item was available in every U.S. state except Alaska and could have been distributed in the U.S. territories of Guam and Puerto Rico.

The batch number 07174, which has a "Best By" date of July 17, 2026, is subject to a recall. The impacted containers are also labeled with the package code "INIA0120."

Consumers are encouraged to examine their items. Should consumers possess products marked with a "Best By" date of July 17, 2026, they are recommended to discard them and consult a medical professional if any issues occur.

Merchants are urged to take the impacted item off the shelves right away.

"At Initiative Foods, the well-being of our customers and their families is our top concern. We are working alongside the FDA to guarantee thorough evaluation and improved safety protocols for all our products. We appreciate our retail partners and customers for their support and quick response to this issue," said Don Ephgrave, CEO and president of Initiative Foods.

No health issues or injuries have been reported so far, according to the FDA.
