Two Chevrolets Shatter Mustang GTD's Nürburgring Track Record

Success achieved! Chevrolet has secured a new cars made by American brands At the Nürburgring Nordschleife ... and it accomplished this feat twice to confirm.

The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and Corvette ZR1X Both achieved quicker times than the 815 hp Ford Mustang GTD's 6:52.072 recorded during a session on June 24.

The 1,064-horsepower Corvette ZR1 completed the course in 6 minutes, 50.763 seconds, whereas the 1,250-horsepower all-wheel-drive hybrid Corvette ZR1X reduced the time by one and a half seconds, achieving a lap of 6 minutes, 49.275 seconds.

This positions the Corvette ZR1X as the first American vehicle to surpass the 6:50 mark, whereas the The Mustang GTD was the first to complete a lap in under seven minutes. .

Each Corvette was fitted with the ZTK performance package, featuring a rear spoiler and additional aerodynamic components intended to produce as much as 1,200 pounds of downward force when traveling at elevated speeds.

General Motors also introduced a 670-hp Z06 equipped with the same Z07 performance package to test its capabilities, achieving an impressive time of 7 minutes and 11.826 seconds.

General Motors expressed pride in the fact that all the drivers were engineers instead of seasoned racers, unlike what Ford employed; however, each had accumulated numerous laps of experience at the challenging circuit referred to as The Green Hell.

The Corvettes are significantly more affordable compared to the Mustang GTD, which has a starting price of $327,960 The starting cost of the Corvette ZR1 is $175,195, whereas the pricing for the Corvette ZR1X has yet to be revealed and will be made public nearer to its release later this year, but is expected to fall within the $205,000 bracket.

However, some production vehicles have still managed to achieve higher speeds than the Corvette ZR1X. According to the Nürburgring's official records, the Mercedes AMG GT Black Series completed a lap in 06:48.047, the Porsche 911 GT2 R Manthey Performance Kit in 06:43.300, and the $2.7 million Mercedes-AMG One set an overall fastest time of 06:29.090.
