Trump Admin Accused of Promoting Flawed Science

For individuals aware of the true nature of the climate emergency, this has been a challenging week. For instance, on Tuesday, Lee Zeldin, leader of Donald Trump's Environmental Protection Agency, participated in a right-wing podcast where he stated that the Republican government is proceeding with an extreme anti-environment strategy.

As NBC News reported Team Trump and their EPA aim to overturn "a scientific conclusion that has consistently served as the foundation for U.S. efforts to control greenhouse gas emissions and address climate change," specifically eliminating a 2009 determination "which concluded that carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases pose a threat to public health and well-being."

The New York Times added Without the determination of harm, the EPA would have no legal power under the Clean Air Act to control the greenhouse gases that are increasing in the atmosphere due to the combustion of fossil fuels.

This action followed shortly after Trump's Department of Energy releasing a related a report that minimized the dangers presented by the global environmental crisis and wrongly claimed that actions taken to tackle the issue would have adverse effects.

At first glance, the main issue with the Energy Department's report was its strong opposition to the established scientific agreement, supported by extensive data gathered by academics and experts globally. A more subtle concern arises from the fact that the document seems to have distorted the scientific findings used to support its claims. NOTUS reported that "at least 10" of the researchers mentioned in the document claimed their findings were misrepresented.

Gernot Wagner, an environmental economist from Columbia University, described the organization's efforts as "careless," stating, "This isn't how science should function."

If this seems somewhat recognizable, it's because this isn't the first time something like this has happened. Indeed, it was only two months ago that Trump's White House and the Department of Health and Human Services released "The MAHA Report: Making Our Children Healthy Again," which, as NOTUS also discovered , was filled with faulty references toward scientific research, in certain instances also referencing research that has not been conducted mentioning investigations that are fabricated quoting data that is non-existent alluding to experiments that never took place referring to sources that do not exist citing nonexistent academic work using false scholarly references fabricating study citations invoking unverified research findings creating fictional evidence-based claims .

Following the event, it was logical that administrative personnel would seek to be more cautious. Apparently, the Department of Energy did not grasp the lesson.

Regarding why this is important, the issue isn't only that Team Trump clearly cannot be relied upon to provide truthful details to the public. According to NOTUS' latest report:

There's a good chance we're not done hearing about this yet. Keep an eye out.
