Mets Acquire Two-Time All-Star Closer in Big bullpen Move

The Philadelphia Phillies were not the sole National League East team to acquire a top-tier closer. As per several reports, the New York Mets has obtained two-time All-Star Ryan Helsley from the St. Louis Cardinals .

As compensation, the Cardinals acquired several young talents: infielder Jesus Baez (ranked as New York's eighth best prospect), right-hander Nate Dohm (listed as New York's 14th top prospect), and another right-hander named Frank Elissalt, as reported by Will Sammon of The Athletic. These three athletes do not appear on MLB.com's Top 100 Prospects ranking.

The transaction follows the Phillies making a major swap to acquire Jhoan Duran from the Minnesota Twins .

This marks the second deal the Mets completed on Wednesday involving a relief pitcher and the third such transaction this week. The The Mets obtained submarine-style pitcher Tyler Rogers. from the San Francisco Giants earlier this morning and acquired left-handed pitcher Gregory Soto from the Baltimore Orioles earlier this week.

Helsley and Rogers will contribute to forming an outstanding trio at the back end of the bullpen. Edwin Diaz , who will continue as the team's closing pitcher.

Throughout the season, Helsley posted a 3.00 ERA in 36 games, striking out 41 batters over 36 innings pitched and recording 21 saves. He will become a free agent when the season concludes.

The Mets have strengthened their already formidable bullpen. The New York relief pitchers are ranked fifth in the National League for ERA (3.80), second in strikeout totals (422), and seventh in opposing batting average (.239). Bringing in Helsley and Rogers enhances the Mets' threat level during the postseason.
