Hyundai's Improved Elantra N Is Unavailable in the U.S.—For Now

The more circuit-oriented variant of the Hyundai Elantra N Known as the Elantra N TCR Edition, this high-performance sedan is getting closer to arriving in the United States, with Hyundai Canada recently confirming that it will soon be accessible to customers in northern regions.

Initially, Hyundai introduced the TCR Edition exclusively for the South Korean market, though they kept the option of selling it in other areas unspecified. It remains unclear if this model will be available in the U.S., yet because Hyundai has chosen to bring some units to Canada, this raises optimism that it might eventually be adapted for sale across the country as well.

If you're seeking additional performance, we regret to inform you that it isn't listed on the TCR's specifications. It operates with the standard Elantra N’s A 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine delivering 276 horsepower along with 289 pound-feet of torsion. Canadian customers can opt for either the six-speed manual transmission or the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Regarding differences, the visual changes are immediately noticeable: a large carbon fiber swan-neck wing provides significant downforce, yet can be adjusted to various positions based on your requirements. Lighter 19-inch forged wheels have been installed, with enhanced four-piston monobloc brakes gripping dual-piece discs at the front, concealed beneath them. The objective was to develop a more track-focused variant of the Elantra N, which led to the TCR (Touring Car Racing) designation.

Certainly, exclusive badges and distinctive materials are also present. You'll see the "TCR" logo on the back tailgate. Additionally, it features TCR door light panels, an Alcantara steering wheel with a blue indicator at the top, and other parts covered in Alcantara like the central console, gearshift lever, and handbrake. Finally, the range of exterior colors available is restricted to only four rather than the six choices offered for the Elantra N.

What will these modifications set you back? Approximately $3500 more than a regular Elantra N, according to the exchange rate between Canadian and American currency. Just for the brakes, wheels, and aerodynamic enhancements, this seems like an excellent offer. If you add certain aesthetic and material features, we definitely wouldn't mind if Hyundai introduced this TCR Edition.
