Big Health Event Announces News Conference Before Saturday's Health Fair

SHREVEPORT, Louisiana (KSLA) - The Major Wellness Fair is coming soon.

Before Saturday's (August 2) event, the Urban League of Louisiana and Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport are hosting a press briefing to provide additional details regarding the health fair. This press conference is scheduled for Thursday, July 31 at 1:00 PM and will be available via live stream within this article.

The major wellness gathering will take place on Saturday, August 2nd, between 10 AM and 3 PM at the Shreveport Convention Center, which can be found at 400 Caddo Street. This complimentary event is available for all members of the community. It aims to emphasize health and overall wellbeing for every individual.

During the gathering, attendees can expect health check-ups, informative workshops, exercise classes, culinary shows, panel discussions with specialists, school supply distributions, and an exclusive zone for children offering science-themed activities.

Complimentary parking is offered. SporTran will additionally provide free transportation for individuals between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., departing from its primary station located at 1237 Murphy Street.

A key objective of the Urban League of Louisiana is to ensure that all individuals, irrespective of their ethnicity or economic background, have fair access to health and fitness initiatives. Research indicates that African Americans and members of other minority groups experience higher rates of health inequalities.

THE MAJOR WELLNESS CONFERENCE WILL FEATURE:

  • Health check-ups – measuring blood pressure, cholesterol levels, diabetes or glucose tests, mental function assessments, lung volume evaluation, eyesight examination, body weight analysis, calculation of body mass index (BMI), mammograms, dental exams, PSA test for detecting prostate cancer, sexually transmitted diseases screening, human papillomavirus testing, scoliosis detection, colorectal cancer checks, oral and skin cancer evaluations, and monitoring children’s physical development.
