YouTube thinks its Trending section has fulfilled its role, and the video platform plans to close it in the coming weeks. The Trending and Trending Now functions on YouTube will both be eliminated on July 21, 2025.

Announced in a blog post YouTube states, "We are implementing changes to more accurately reflect how individuals encounter popular content nowadays by moving away from a single comprehensive Trending page toward specialized charts within different categories, which we will keep developing further."

As part of this update, YouTube directs users to three new pages along with an established ranking tool. These include Trending Movie Trailers , Trending Music Videos , Weekly Top Podcast Shows and the existing Gaming Explore Page. As part of that final link, there is a specific Trending Gaming Videos list .

Strangely, these pages seem not to employ the same algorithms as YouTube's initial functionality. As of this writing, a music video for a Blackpink track JUMP It holds the top spot on the Trending page, yet ranks fourth on the company's music rankings.

The second most-watched video on the initial platform is by the group TWICE featuring their song This Is For ranked seventh on the music chart. One explanation suggests that YouTube Music is now considered for the updated chart, something that might not have occurred on the initial Trending page.

YouTube mentions that it plans to broaden its reach across different categories in the future. For instance, individual vlogs frequently show up in YouTube's rankings, but they might not be included in the upcoming framework. It's possible that the company could introduce a chart focused on personalities at some point down the line.

YouTube might have developed this feature rapidly due to an error in the company's chart related to movie and television trailers. The section states, "YouTube Music Charts: United States Trending Movie Trailers." We anticipate this will be corrected prior to July 21.

The competition is intensifying as each YouTuber strives to secure the last remaining top position on the Trending page on July 20. The initial version of the Trending page made its debut in 2015.
