Wimbledon Victory Feels Even Sweeter After Doping Ban – Sinner

()- ROME, July 14 – The world’s top-ranked player, Jannik Sinner from Italy, stated on Monday that his recent Wimbledon victory against Spanish athlete Carlos Alcaraz held an extra significance following his three-month suspension due to unintentional exposure to a steroid. Sinner mentioned that he shared this sentiment with Iga Świątek from Poland, who faced a one-month ban related to a cardiac drug, believing that overcoming such challenges and returning to claim success felt even more rewarding. “Iga and I discussed it yesterday, and in a way, we celebrated even more,” Sinner remarked, addressing whether he worried that his win in London might tarnish the reputation of tennis, particularly after a contentious social media comment from independent Australian player Nick Kyrgios regarding his positive result for clostebol, leading to a three-month penalty from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). He clarified that rather than being concerned, the 23-year-old native of South Tyrol believed that their respective controversies enhanced the value of their achievements. Some critics including Kyrgios suggested that Sinner deserved a longer punishment; however, WADA concurred with Sinner's account that his coach and physio inadvertently exposed him to the hormone.
