Two Drivers Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash in Colchester

COLLEGE STATION, TX (KBTX) - Two motorists lost their lives in a multi-vehicle accident that occurred on Sunday in Colchester.
The individuals who lost their lives have been recognized as 28-year-old Jennifer Allena Leinbach from Norwich and 27-year-old Carlos Miguel Bauer from Colchester. They were driving different cars.
The accident occurred close to 453 Middletown Rd., which is also called Route 16, near Cato Corner Road, approximately at 5:05 p.m.
The highway remained inaccessible for approximately six hours.
Officers stated that the driver of a Hyundai Elantra, which belonged to Bauer, collided with the rear end of a Subaru Crosstrek. The Subaru was pushed off the right side of the road and then flipped over.
Meanwhile, Bauer's car moved into the opposing lane and collided with a Toyota RAV 4 being operated by Leinbach, resulting in a frontal impact. This crash pushed the RAV 4 off the right edge of the road and led to it flipping over.
Leinbach was declared deceased upon arrival. Her companion, Jennifer Ann Loura, who officers stated was expecting a child at the time, sustained critical wounds. She was taken via Lifestar emergency helicopter to Hartford Hospital.
Bauer was declared deceased upon arrival. His passenger sustained severe injuries and was transported to Hartford Hospital.
Two individuals who were inside the Crosstrek sustained only minor injuries.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation reported that Route 16 was shut down from Standish Road to Davidson Road due to an event. It was open again approximately at 1 a.m. on Monday.
Individuals traveling by car mentioned they weren’t taken aback by news of an accident.
It happens constantly," said Jay Weinberger from Colchester. "They're involved in an incident, and it becomes a major crash site.
Leanna Peters from Oakdale mentioned that her spouse was injured in an accident approximately 18 months prior.
I'm not surprised since the same incident occurred here with my husband," Peters stated. "And my husband nearly lost his life because of it.
She requested drivers to focus on the road.
Just stay alert because this situation can affect anyone," Peters remarked. "It happened to my spouse.
Law enforcement officials stated that they are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
